Membership Contribution Proposal 2026
At last year’s Annual General Meeting, we presented a plan to improve BIABC’s financial sustainability. It is important to note our primary revenue continues to come from the annual Conference and Members’ annual investment contributions. We are also working on diversifying revenues through programs such as the Preferred Vendors Program, and value-based projects with the Provincial and Federal Governments.
Background
With the rising importance of advocacy over the last few years, BIABC’s budget expenditures have grown by 30%. To date, this increase has been covered by a few members investing significantly more than their annual contributions.
At the AGM, the presentation focused on ensuring a strong foundation is in place which allows BIABC to grow in scale and influence, representing all of our members. We also believe strongly that this must be done in a balanced and reasonable way to lessen individua BIA impacts and increase our ability to act on your behalf.
Existing Contribution Structure
Over the past 8 years we have gone from a flat fee for all members, no matter the levy size, to a tiered system based on levies in “bucketed” ranges.
2025 Contribution Buckets:
- Under $200,000 - $310
- $200,000 - $599,999 - $510
- $600,000 - $999,999 - $780
- $1,000,000 & up - $965
Both systems provided wide disparities in contributions relative to levy size.
New Proposal
We are proposing a standardized system based on a base contribution of $200 for all members, plus .002 of your levy amount.
Example: A BIA with a levy of $200,000 would pay $200 + 200,000 x .002 ($400) for a total of $600.
The attached sheet provides further examples, as well as an indication of how your annual contribution supports the BIA community in BC.
